The Ottoman Tradition

A Practice Passed Down
Through Generations

Turkish barbering is one of the world's oldest grooming traditions, a craft honed over centuries in the hammams and bazaars of the Ottoman Empire, brought to Kingsland Road.

The Craft Behind
Every Cut

Turkish barbering traces back to the bathhouses of the Ottoman Empire, where the berber, the barber, was as essential to daily life as the baker or the blacksmith. The trade was passed from father to son, generation to generation, each learning not just the technique but the art of reading a face, understanding a person, giving them something they didn't know they needed.

At Baba Barbers, every service draws on that lineage. Hot towels opened with steam. Cut-throat razors drawn with a single steady hand. Ear-flame threading that only a trained berber knows how to deliver without pain. Mud masks that clean and restore. These are not gimmicks. They are heritage.

"Every cut is a conversation. Every shave is a ritual. We bring the hammam to Kingsland Road."

What Makes Turkish
Barbering Different

The defining element of the Turkish barber is totality. A visit is never transactional. It is an experience from the moment you sit in the chair. The warm towel before the shave. The precise pull of a taut razor. The gentle flame that traces the line of the ear. The unhurried attention to the jawline, the neckline, the shape of a beard as it frames the face.

Combined with East London's own energy, the music, the conversations, and the banter between barbers and clients who have become regulars and who have brought their brothers and fathers and friends, Baba Barbers has created something that bridges the old world and the new. Sons of Baba. Carry the tradition.

Brotherhood, Not Business

Baba Barbers was built on family. The three brothers who run it treat every client like one of their own, with banter, drinks, and the kind of conversation you don't get in a silent salon.

Our Story

Why Baba?
Why Us.

Baba is the Turkish word for father. And for three brothers, Mesut, Mehmet and Emre, it is also an inheritance. Growing up watching their father work behind the chair, they learned that barbering was never just about hair. It was about the person sitting down in front of you. The conversation. The trust. The ritual of caring about how someone leaves.

When they opened Baba Barbers on Kingsland Road, they didn't try to reinvent the wheel. They brought what their father taught them, Turkish technique, honest attention, and a welcoming hand, and they placed it right in the middle of East London's most alive street.

"We named it Baba because everything we know about this craft, we learned from him. Every cut we give is for him."

Today, the team also includes Aram and Ricardo, barbers who've made the Baba chair their own. The shop has become a local institution: known across Shoreditch, Hoxton and Hackney for skin fades that don't disappoint, wet shaves done the right way, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.

Sons of Baba. Come take a seat.
